Dental Implants

Good candidates for dental implants are those who have lost a tooth or teeth and have healthy gums and sufficient bone density in their jaw to support the implant. People with good overall health and no serious medical conditions that affect healing are ideal candidates.

Dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. The crown placed on the implant may need replacement every 10-15 years, but the implant itself can remain in place for decades with proper care.

The dental implant procedure is typically done under local anesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the surgery. Some discomfort, swelling, or bruising may occur after the procedure, but it can usually be managed with pain medication and typically subsides within a few days.

The complete dental implant process can take several months. After the initial implant placement, the bone needs time to heal and fuse with the implant in a process called osseointegration. This can take 3 to 6 months. After that, a custom-made crown or other restoration can be placed on the implant.
